This is a link which mentions stress creating visible signs in our face. If not managed accordingly, the stress or anxiety brought by your hyperhidrosis might appear in your face somehow.

10 Green Jobs

November 24, 2011 Leave a comment

With the economy tanking and unemployment skyrocketing (aside from us being sweaty most of the time), I believe green jobs are appropriate to consider.

What is a green job?

A green job would be ‘work in agricultural, manufacturing, research & development, and service activities that contribute substantially to preserving or restoring environmental quality’. These might be just what our planet needs (and also suitable for our condition).

1/ Farmer – Average age of farmers is 55. Since sustainable agriculture requires small-scale, local, organic methods rather than petroleum-based machines and fertilizers, there is a huge for more farmers and related workers such as urban gardeners, farmers market, etc.

2/ Forester – Modern forestry is a complex combination of international project finance, conservation and development. Approximately 1.6 billion people depend on the forest for their livelihoods. Deforestation, which causes around a quarter of all global warming, is also likely to be a leading source of carbon credits.

3/ Solar Power Installer – Making and installing solar power systems already accounts for some 770,000 jobs globally. Installing solar-thermal water heaters and rooftop photovoltaic cells is a relatively high-paying job–$15 to $35 an hour–for those with construction skills. And opportunities are available, wherever the sun shines.

4/ Energy Efficiency Builder – Buildings account for up to 48 percent of US energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. LEED, the major green building certification, has over 43,000 accredited professionals. Greening the building stock will take not only skilled architects and engineers, but also a workforce of retrofitters.

5/ Wind Turbine Fabricator – Wind is the leading and fastest-growing source of alternative energy with over 300,000 jobs worldwide. Turbines are 90% metal by weight, creating an opportunity for autoworkers and other manufacturers to repurpose their skills.

6/ Conservation Biologist – The urgent quest to preserve the integrity of ecosystems around the world — and to quantify the value of — ecosystems services — leads to opportunities in teaching, research and fieldwork for government, nonprofits, and private companies.

7/ Green MBA and Entrepreneur – A recent report showed that business services like legal, research and consulting account for the majority of all green jobs — over 400,000. This includes everything from marketing to the LOHAS (Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability) segment, to serving as a VP of sustainability within a large company.

8/ Recycler – Although the market for paper and plastic has slowed down recently due to the economic downturn, demand for steel is still strong — 42 percent of output came from scrap in 2006 — and recycling remains the economical alternative to high disposal fees. There is a need for specialized companies that can close the loop by recycling and re-purposing e-waste, clothing, plastic bags, construction waste, and other materials.

9/ Sustainability Systems Developer – The green economy needs a cadre of specialized software developers and engineers who design, build, and maintain the networks of sensors and stochastic modeling that underpin wind farms, smart energy grids, congestion pricing and other systems substituting intelligence for natural resources.

10/ Urban Planner – Strengthening mass transit systems, limiting sprawl, encouraging use of bicycles and de-emphasizing cars is only part of the job. Equally important is contingency planning, as floods, heat waves and garbage creep and become increasingly common problems for metropolises.

Saving Face

May 26, 2011 6 comments

Early last week, one of my Indian office mate (Abdulhamid) received a warning letter from our HR that he was untidy and smelly, and threatened to apply salary deduction. While sobbing, he showed the letter to me and mentioned that ‘this is your payoff for all the good things you tried to share and exerted to this company’. With caution I asked him if that was true. He directly told me that he cannot avoid it because he has a sweating problem. Gosh.. only then I knew that somebody right there from our office share the same sweating problem like me!..

Immediately I told to Abdulhamid not to lose his composure; and assured him that I myself will assist in solving this issue. It’s really a long time I tried to bypass my office mates’ negative comments about this condition. Now this is such a relief for me to validate acceptance of our situation.

I wrote a separate e-mail addressed to our Administration and HR manager that they are wrong in labeling Abdulhamid as ‘untidy’. Aside from telling them that their accusation has nothing to do with his work performance, I told them that he did not choose to experience being untidy; in fact he cannot avoid being untidy because of his sweating problem. I told them that he has body and axillary hyperhidrosis, while I have palmo-plantar hyperhidrosis.. Finally i emphasized to them that they have no idea how we suffered trying to adjust with this condition.

After that, I informed to Abdulhamid what I did. I waited if the HR will call us for further reprimand but interestingly, the week almost passed and we never heard anything from them. I asked Abdulhamid for anything and said he never heard anything also, neither the HR opened the topic again as if nothing was circulated..

Whether they will accept us or not, what really matter is understanding the condition which can be possible only by raising the issue into public awareness. An understanding that life has imperfections; but the way we live makes it perfectly wonderful. And a trust that if the situation is beyond our control, we can rest assured with our Creator who has the total control of everything when he said “be still and know that I am the Lord..” I encourage you to please share your similar experiences to reinforce all of us.

An Appeal to Our Fellow ETS Side Effects Sufferers

April 25, 2011 2 comments

“This friendship site is for all HH individuals whether with ETS or not, no exception. This weblog has no intention whatsoever to impose guilt on the side effects brought by ETS surgery. In fact, we are here to embrace you; we are all struggling in the same HH boat, no exception. We are all affected at different levels, and devastated at varying degrees. Yet I am pretty sure we are all struggling for one big desire: freedom from suffering.

In the eyes of our Creator, we are created equal. Each one of us, whatever the circumstances is, balances the entire wonderful force of life. We are all one with our Creator, we are not separate, and there is a reason. That is why I learned to accept that despite this condition, there lies the beauty in it.. I learned and accepted that we came forth with this condition as an advocate of unconditional love. That is, to accept and love us just the way we are..

This is the time of awakening and enlightenment. Let us come into a realization that we are all precious despite this condition; that freedom and wholeness really abounds; that we really have something to contribute to this force of life, just like the mystery of autistic and with cerebral palsy..

Let us get awaken to the acceptance of our Creator…”

Its Time to Group

here is a reply which i wrote to a leading HH forum:

to Beverly,

here i am now, apart from our personal messaging.. :-)

the last two replies are almost a year apart, and i am cheerful to find that i am following the one from yesterday.

quoting on the subject of this topic, i think emailing to US tv doctors is really not enough. there must be planning, organizing and action on a higher level. and as ‘dotolo’ mentioned, there are considerations that must be resolved along with this.

my suggestion:

1/ human nature respond to tangible entity. there must be a PHYSICAL group/organization of HH individuals, not only in chatrooms or forum. i know there is AA (alcoholics anonymous), autism centres, etc. there must be similar tangible HH groups.

there must be a way of PHYSICALLY grouping HH individuals. with internet as our tool, we can contact and coordinate our fellow to form HH group specific to our location. for example, there must be a physical HH organization in US (much better per states), in UK, Singapore, Indonesia, etc. That is why i tried to create a location-specific HH weblog; not just because for relief (there is such a great relief knowing you have a fellow HH in your same backyard), but also to make us more a reality and extended even to non-HH individuals.

2/ with a concrete HH group, we can surely coordinate with reputed surgeons/researchers to support our plight.

3/ with doctors on our side, we can now appeal to higher media.

we can now follow-up our appeal to Oprah, after exposure to Oprah then probably a documentary for BBC or CNN. then we can get the attention and action of WHO. then we can get the support of private firms to produce HH documentary film.

“think big, and your deeds will glow. think small, and you will fall behind. think that you can, and you will. it is all the state of mind.” (pravsworld)

give my regards to fearless Anne (saw your youtube and you are awesome). :-)

p.s. just like our favorite sci-fi characters X-MEN, we simply have to band together for strength..
